Food plan 091309

Well, I think I did ok regarding last weeks food plan.  It wasn't too difficult to stick with the majority of it.  I didn't follow through with the Mexican-Style Butterflied Chicken because I kept forgetting to take the only frozen whole bird I had out of the freezer.

This week, Ralph's has a killer sale on whole chickens happening: $0.59/lb! Limit 4!  Just guess how many I picked up.

Here's the plan in no particular order:
  1. Tapenade-Stuffed Chicken Breasts
    1. Saffron Rice
    2. sauteed Italian squash
  2. Mexican-Style Butterflied Chicken
    1. guacamole
    2. beans
  3. Baked Salmon on Wild Rice and Asparagus with Raspberry-Honey Sauce (this one is iffy)
  4. French Onion Sirloin Steak
    1. Sauteed New Potatoes with Rosemary and Sea Salt
  5. Spaghetti
    1. garlic bread
    2. simple green salad
  6. Honey-Soy Chicken Wings
    1. green beans
    2. yams
Here's what I bought:
  • Red Baron pizza: 2 @ $4.49: 8.98
  • frozen garlic bread: $3.99
  • croutons: 2 @ 1.50 = $3
  • small black olives: 4-14oz cans @ $1.25 = $5
  • soy sauce: $3.49
  • wild rice: $2.99
  • eggs: 2 dozen @ $0.77 = $1.54
  • whole chickens: 4 @ $0.59/lb = $12.66
  • limes: 2 @ 0.89/lb = $0.31
  • Italian squash 2 @ $0.89/lb = $1.14
  • red potatoes: $2.06 lb @ $0.49/lb = $1.01
  • sweet onions: 2.21 lb @$0.79/lb = $1.75
  • green beans: 1.10 lb @ $1.29/lb = $1.42
  • acorn squash: 1.82 lb @ $0.79/lb= $1.44
  • yams: 1.22/lb @ $0.99/lb = $1.21
  • sourdough bread: $3.59
  • rice vinegar: 1.99
  • swiss cheese: $4.49/8 oz
  • white mushrooms: $1.29/8 oz
  • strawberries: $1.29/lb
  • yellow onions: 0.84lb @$0.99/2 lb = $0.42
Total so far: $63.74.  I still need to get avocados for the guac; some lettuce and salad fixin's depending on the status of ones I bought last week, plus raspberries and asparagus for the salmon dish.  I'm not too hopeful about anything but the avocados.  It may be that I'll have to do some more renegade cooking.

If I follow through on these meals, I'll have tried 5 new recipes!  Well, 6 if you count the wings which are more a spin-off of a previous recipe than a new one.  Screw it!!  6 new recipes!
